Gift me not

September 20, 2012

The last two weeks have been rough. Arlo was sick last week and now is teething. In conclusion, we are not getting much sleep at our house.

I don’t do well on little sleep. I was that girl in college who always went to bed early. I never stayed up until three in the morning studying for a test or writing a paper.

In my exhaustion I am impatient, crass, vulgar, and mean. On Sunday, while driving home with a screaming baby I thought; God, sometimes it’s hard to think of Arlo as a gift.

I, of course, felt guilty for even thinking the thought. It did bring to mind a verse from James that kept creeping in to my mind. Something about every good ad perfect gift coming from God.

So being the Bible college graduate, I googled it.

I read the whole first chapter of James in which the verse was planted. I would quote it, but you are a smart reader, google it.

In conclusion I have come to the realization that gifts that come from God come with responsibility. Arlo is a gift from God, my husband is a gift from God, my dogs are a gift from God, the church is a gift from God. However, theses gifts are not given to me so I can be self indulgent.

These good gifts are given to me so that my soul, my heart, my mind, and my strength can be straightened and molded and twisted into a completeness that is only found in Christ.
